A new way of working …

Before the pandemic, teams of volunteers used to meet up weekly to produce the Fakenham, Dereham and Wells Talking Times. Items from local papers were recorded together with a magazine section of stories, quizzes and other articles, and these were distributed, on digital media, to the blind and poorly sighted of the area.

During the pandemic restrictions on group meetings threatened to suspend the publication of the Talking Times and the committee felt it should do all it could to continue publishing. As a result, a new arrangement was established were volunteers recorded items at home from electronic copies of the local papers kindly supplied by the publishers. These items were then transmitted over the internet to an editor who prepared the paper ready for duplication and subsequent free distribution via the Royal Mail.

This new system has worked so well that the committee has decided to continue the arrangement post pandemic.
